Square Check
One very useful technique for checking if a rectangle or square project is perfectly square is to measure it from corner to corner on 2 opposing corners. If you have ever performed this check with a tape measurer then most likely you have had the tape end slip off the edge forcing you to pick up the tape and hook it on again. This can slow you down, not to mention it being aggravating. Well Rockler has come up with a solution. It is a plastic piece that slips onto the end of the tape, and then you place its 90 degree angle onto the corner of the project. This time the tape will stay in place a lot easier.
This test is probably the easiest I have done in a long time. It will either work or it won’t. So I took a couple frames that I built recently and hooked the tape over the edge. True to Rockler’s claim this really did help keep the tape steady. An investment of $6.50 plus any shipping makes this easy on your wallet or purse. I really like this gadget, it is a simple design and it really works too. I recommend you put one in your tool box or perhaps as a gift for the woodworker in your life. Remember it is always beneficial to get into the good graces of a craftsman.
