Carving the Philadelphia ball and claw foot with Mary May

Today we will begin a new series this blog will be about carving the Philadelphia ball and claw foot as taught by master carver Mary May. I met Mary a few months ago and after some negotiation she agreed to help us with this project. So for you to complete this series and follow along you’re going to need a few things including a set of the right carving tools and a DVD that you can buy from Mary On her website. The tools we will be using in our videos and in the blog were supplied to us by the Robert Larson Company the sole distributor of Two Cherries Toolslogo2 e you can purchase the same tools or buy them from a different vendor but we encourage you to try the Two Cherries .We have a full set of these tools and feel they are a great value they are top shelf Quality and you will be pleased with the price vs other carving tools. Next you will need to Buy the DVD you can do that here. And you may also buy a casting from Mary this will help you to visualize the way your foot should look when it is carved. After you have your DVD you will have a clear idea of what you are going to need as far as wood goes Mary has told me we should all start out with Bass Wood as it is easy to carve and is Ideal for us beginner carvers. Once you have your DVD you will get a list of the recommended tools you will need for the carving I recommend you do not substitute any of the tools as Mary has said the tool selection is vital for your success. I will Start Part two Of this Blog next week this will give you time to get your DVD and order your tools if you’re going to follow along.

until next week

Cheers
